President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson campaigned together in Dubuque, Iowa, urging Republican voters to turn out in the upcoming midterm elections and warning against Democratic gains. The rally focused on Republican unity, criticism of Democratic policies, and efforts to challenge polls suggesting that the election could be close.
During the Iowa rally, Johnson praised Trump’s leadership and thanked voters across the state for their continued support. He also highlighted several Republican candidates, including Zach Nunn, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Joe Mitchell, Chris McGowan, and Ashley Hinson, whom he described as strong candidates who could help Republicans maintain their political influence in Iowa.
Johnson told the crowd that the election represented a clear choice between what he called common-sense Republican candidates and what he characterized as an increasingly radical Democratic Party. He argued that Democrats should not be viewed as moderates, claiming that the party was moving further toward the far left.
The House Speaker also warned Republican supporters against becoming complacent, saying that Democratic candidates could only succeed if Republicans failed to turn out in sufficient numbers. He urged Iowa voters to remain politically engaged and make their voices heard on Election Day.
Addressing concerns about election polling, Johnson dismissed surveys suggesting that Republicans were struggling in several competitive races. He described the polls as inaccurate and accused mainstream media outlets of promoting a misleading narrative that the election was already decided.
Johnson said he had been campaigning extensively across the United States, visiting 45 congressional districts in 24 states during the month. According to him, his visits to swing districts, traditionally Democratic-leaning states, and competitive electoral areas had convinced him that the Republican campaign remained competitive.
He emphasized that the election outcome would ultimately depend on voter participation rather than polling predictions. Johnson encouraged supporters to remain confident, campaign actively, and ensure strong Republican turnout in Iowa and across the country.
Trump also received enthusiastic applause and cheers from the crowd as Johnson praised their working relationship. Johnson described the president as an exceptionally hardworking leader, joking that Trump frequently contacted him late at night and early in the morning to discuss political matters.
Concluding his remarks, Johnson called on Iowans to vote for what he described as freedom and America's future. He predicted that Republicans would overcome expectations and deliver a surprising election-night victory.
The Dubuque rally highlighted the Republican Party's efforts to energize its voter base ahead of the midterm elections, with Trump and Johnson making a final push to strengthen support for Republican candidates in Iowa and other competitive districts.
