Actress Selma Blair has made her first public statement since her arrest in October, apologizing to those affected by the incident while explaining that she cannot discuss the details because of an ongoing legal case. In a video posted on Instagram, the actress said she was following her lawyers’ advice to remain silent about the events that led to her arrest.
“I'm sorry that it's taken this long,” Blair said at the beginning of the video, acknowledging the delay in addressing the situation publicly. She explained that her legal team had advised her not to comment on what happened that day and said she was respecting their guidance.
Blair was arrested in October after an incident aboard a Delta Air Lines flight, where a pilot reportedly said the actress had become violent. According to accounts described in the report, a flight attendant and a passenger sustained minor injuries, including a bloody nose and bite marks. Medical personnel were reportedly called to assess the injuries when the aircraft reached the gate.
The incident allegedly continued after Blair was taken into custody. Authorities reportedly alleged that she kicked a police officer and subsequently a nurse while being transported to a hospital. Blair is facing assault charges connected to the incident.
As part of the legal proceedings, a restraining order was also issued requiring Blair to stay at least 100 yards away from the nurse involved. The order was discussed during a court proceeding, where Blair was asked to confirm that she understood its requirements.
In her Instagram statement, Blair expressed remorse and apologized to those who may have been hurt or frightened by the incident. She said she had never intended to hurt or alarm anyone and offered an emotional apology to the people who felt disappointed, injured, frightened or concerned by what happened.
A representative for Blair previously said the actress experienced a medical emergency during the flight. The representative also explained that Blair has a neurological condition associated with multiple sclerosis (MS), which can affect how a medical episode appears to people who are unfamiliar with her condition.
The explanation has added another dimension to the case, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident and how it was handled. However, the precise details of the medical episode and the events aboard the flight have not been fully established publicly.
Blair also indicated that her immediate priorities are her health and her son. In her video message, she said she would be focusing on her well-being while expressing gratitude and love to those supporting her.
The actress, known for films such as Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde, has previously spoken publicly about living with multiple sclerosis. She disclosed her diagnosis in 2018 and has since used her platform to raise awareness about the neurological condition and the challenges associated with it.
Blair is currently free on bond and is expected to return to Queens Criminal Court in January, according to the report. She has not yet entered a formal plea to the assault charges. The FBI is also continuing to investigate the incident, while a source close to the actress has reportedly raised questions about how the situation was handled.
The case remains ongoing, and the allegations against Blair have not been resolved in court. Her latest statement offers an apology to those affected while making clear that she intends to follow her legal team's advice and concentrate on her health and family as the proceedings continue.
